| Firefighters apply water to a wood waste silo at furniture manufacturer Pompanoosuc Mills in East Thetford yesterday. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries in a dust explosion during the response. According to Thetford Volunteer Fire Department, more than 60 emergency responders from throughout the Upper Valley operated at the scene yesterday. Some were there for nearly 11 hours before the fire was fully extinguished. |
| Topsham man sentenced for assaulting cops |
| “A Topsham man on probation for shooting another man in the back has been sentenced to time served for assaulting police officers in the Granite City,” reports the Times-Argus. Arther Butler, 24, pleaded no contest on Friday to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and simple assault on a law enforcement officer in November 2023 when he attacked a Barre City Police Department officer with a long knife. The officer used a stun gun to disarm the assailant. At the time, Butler was on probation after shooting and paralyzing a man in the back in St. Johnsbury in 2019. He has been in custody since his arraignment in December 2023. His sentence of 40 months to 10 years in the St. Johnsbury shooting has since been imposed. He will remain under supervision for five to six years. |
| Georgia crash kills seven people |
| A vehicle transporting 37 cats to a shelter in Vermont was one of several involved in a horrific interstate crash in Georgia that killed seven people yesterday, reports WMUR-TV. The crash started when a tractor-trailer struck a van, starting a fire which killed all seven people inside that van. The initial collision started a chain reaction crash. An animal shelter in Atlanta said one of its transport van drivers was injured in the resulting chain reaction. In the chaos, many of the cats fled, but at least 32 of the animals had since been recovered. |

Agree. Enough cats. Our S. B. Facebook pg. is filled with cats lost or found. Sometimes dogs but it seems to be mostly cats.
Vermont imports homeless and illegal people, why not import cats
Arthur Butler shot and paralyzed a man, then attacked a police officer with a knife and now he’s out on the street? Who was the brilliant judge that made this decision? If Mr. Butler confronts me in a menacing manner he’s not walking away.

Working to confirm the truck driver is in custody facing multiple charges including distracted driving, homicide by vehicle 2nd degree, operating vehicle w/o current plate and feticide by vehicle second degree.
