3 children, adult struck by suspected impaired driver

A 33-year-old man is facing charges after a crash that injured four pedestrians, including three children, Friday evening in the town of Ferrisburgh, according to Vermont State Police.

Troopers responded at about 6:01 p.m. on March 27, to a report of a vehicle crash. An investigation determined that Matthew Stanley, 33, of Vergennes had lost control of his vehicle and left the roadway.

Police said Stanley’s vehicle struck a parked car and then hit four pedestrians identified as Benjamin Cosabic, 43, and three juveniles ages 12, 11, and 10. They all were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

During the investigation, troopers observed indicators of impairment. Stanley was taken into custody and transported to the New Haven barracks for processing.

Authorities have not released updates on the conditions of the victims. The incident remains under investigation, and additional details, including potential charges, are expected to be released.
