| by Guy Page Christmas and Hannukah are seasons of hope. The people in those stories waited, trusted and worked for freedom and better times. And their hope did not disappoint. As we at the Vermont Daily Chronicle look back at 2024, we see many hopes fulfilled. Most of our readers have been hoping and striving as citizens for a more balanced, responsive state government. March Town Meeting and the November General Election give us hope that Vermont is trending in the right direction. We at VDC tried hard in 2024 to make that hope a reality. We will continue the work in 2025. If you are not already a Sustaining Subscriber, please contribute $9/month online or $108/year online or by sending a $108 annual check to P.O. Box 1547, Montpelier, VT 05601. In 2024, VDC produced more news and commentary delivered in more ways to a larger audience (1.7 million-plus views as of today, by far the most ever). For the first time, we saw what an entire year of reporting by me, General Assignment Reporter Mike Bielawski, Social Media Director Paul Bean, Assistant Editor Tim Page (all ‘staff’) and contributing cops and courts reporter Mike Donoghue looks like. In particular, we debuted Friday at Four, our weekly video podcast. It’s been on vacation for a few weeks while Paul enjoys sunny Florida, but will return full force well before the January 8 opening of the 2025 Session of the Legislature. Our varied, committed stable of commentary writers continues to grow in number and readership. Our online comment community grows in both number and (IMHO) the quality of their articulate, respectful comments. In 2025, we hope (and plan) to offer more, and more focused, State House reporting, and more and better social media productions covering all the news that matters. And we hope that you will choose to become a Sustaining Subscriber (if you aren’t already one of the 5% of readers forming the backbone of our financial existence. If you are – bless you!) When I started VDC in January 2017, I had virtually no expenses. ‘Starter’ software was free. My time was my own to spend. It’s so different now! Almost eight years later, design, production, platforming, and emailing software, equipment, and of course staff require real money. If you are not already one of the hundreds of supportive, encouraging Vermonters who contribute $9/month online or $108/year online or $108 annually online or by check, please invest in our hope for 2025. We also welcome your ideas, comments, questions and testimonials. Blessings of Hope, Free Speech Forever, Guy Page, Editor and Publisher |
