Bradford/Newbury — The Vermont State Police have cited a 19-year-old Newbury resident in connection with alleged sexual assaults that took place in Bradford and Newbury between May and July 2025.
According to investigators, the incidents involved a 14-year-old victim from Bradford. On July 18, 2025, the Department for Children and Families and state police opened an investigation, which led to charges of sexual assault and lewd and lascivious conduct with a child. The accused, identified in court filings as Juvenile 1, was issued a citation at the Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield, where he was already being held on unrelated charges. The name of the victim is being withheld under Vermont law protecting survivors of sexual assault.
An Enosburg man died in a crash this morning, Wednesday August 27, at about 4 AM in Fletcher. State police say the pickup truck rollover crash on Cambridge Rd. near the intersection of Rushford Rd. in the Town of Fletcher took the life of 39-year-old Eric Martin. Assisting agencies included the Cambridge Fire Department, Fairfax Fire Department, and Cambridge Rescue.
Detectives are investigating an alleged assault at the Newmont Slate Quarry that left a West Pawlet man hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Troopers were called around 9:51 a.m. on Sunday, August 24, after 53-year-old Mark Ray was transported from the scene by first responders. He was later transferred to Albany Medical Center in New York, where he remains in critical condition. State police believe Ray’s injuries were caused by an assault. A Brandon man is facing charges after a burglary and confrontation with troopers on Monday evening in Leicester. At about 5:30 p.m. on August 25, troopers responded to Leicester Whiting Road, where 23-year-old William T. Whitney allegedly damaged a residence and threatened a resident. After being located by police, Whitney became combative, spitting on an officer and damaging a cruiser. He was processed at the New Haven barracks and released with a citation to appear in Addison County Superior Court on October 27. The Addison County Sheriff’s Office, Middlebury Police, and Pittsford Police assisted.

State police are investigating a vandalism reported on July 28 on Beebe Road in Derby Line, where a rock shattered the rear windshield of a Ford Expedition belonging to 26-year-old Zachery Robenstein. A silver ring with engravings was recovered (see photo above) at the scene, and police are seeking information about its owner. Tips can be directed to the Derby barracks at 802-334-8881.
Unresponsive drivers ordered to appear in court
A Connecticut man was arrested early Monday for impaired driving and suspected drug trafficking. Troopers found 27-year-old Jarvis A. Lawrence of Bloomfield, CT (at left in photo above), unresponsive in a vehicle near Route 107 in Royalton at about 12:30 a.m. on August 25. Police say Lawrence showed signs of impairment and was arrested for DUI. A search revealed suspected fentanyl, a felony amount of cocaine, and an unserialized firearm. He also received a violation for possession of a firearm without a serial number.
A Massachusetts woman was cited after troopers say she was found violating her conditions of release. On August 15, around 1:35 a.m., police encountered Kathryn Mulhern, 45, of West Roxbury, MA (at right in photo above), slumped over the wheel in a Lyndon parking lot. Mulhern was issued a citation to appear in Caledonia County Superior Court on August 18 and released.
