A total of 147 weather-related crashes have been reported across Vermont from Sunday evening thru Monday evening as icy and hazardous road conditions persist despite the expiration of ice-storm warnings and winter weather advisories, state police say.
State police said 55 of those crashes occurred between 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday alone. Thirty-two were reported on interstate highways and 23 on secondary roads. Most of the afternoon crashes, 31, happened in southern Vermont. Five injuries were reported during that time period.
Overall, eight injuries have been reported since the storm began around 7 p.m. Sunday.
Road conditions remain dangerous in spots this evening as temperatures continue to fall, increasing the risk that wet or slushy areas will quickly freeze. Authorities are urging drivers to use extreme caution, slow down, and avoid unnecessary travel while icy conditions remain.
