A 76-year-old woman is dead following a two-vehicle crash Dec. 12 on Rte. 15 in the Northeast Kingdom town of Walden. Her name is being withheld pending notification of her family.
State police say that shortly after 2 pm, they received a report of a two car motor vehicle crash east of the Rte. 15 intersection with Brookside Drive. A 2011 Toyota Corolla driven by the victim was traveling east on when it left its lane and struck a guardrail in the eastbound shoulder. It was then redirected across the center of the roadway into the westbound lane.
A 2017 Ford Explorer driven by Mitchell Shatney, 38, of Walden was traveling west on Route 15 and was struck by the Corolla in the westbound lane of travel. Both vehicles came to a point of uncontrolled rest. The woman sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene. Shatney was transported for treatment of minor injuries.
