Wilson: What I learned at the Vermont State House

The State on a precipice.

by Former House Representative Charles Wilson

I was honored to serve in the Vermont Statehouse during the 2023 legislative session and half of the 2024 session. Due to health concerns, I resigned on March 2, 2024. Here are reflections from my experience.

First, I met and worked with very capable and distinguished people. To name a few: Mike Farrent, IT staff, Alison Despathy, Guy Page, Mary Beerworth, Christie and Kathrin Leary, Mark Higley, Allen ‘Penny’ Demar, Art Peterson, Brian Kalamar, Eric Maguire, Kenneth Goslant, Gina Galfetti, Paul Clifford, Brian Smith, Dave Stahler, Senator Terry Williams and Representative Terri Williams, Larry Labor, Patrick Brennan, Scott Beck, Mary Morrissey, and the GOP caucus led by Patty McCoy. These, only a few, stood up to a supermajority who has put Vermont in moral and financial ruin.

We do need climate change at the statehouse. There is good in all people but to break your oath of office with regulations and ever burdensome taxes and fees is a socialized tyranny from forced agendas, mainly from out of state and the United Nations.  These need to be rooted out as soon as possible—complete with unions in schools and activists who sneak in from other states. There were at least four in my committee who love to spend taxpayers money. To quote Booker T. Washington, “A lie doesn’t become truth, wrong doesn’t become right, and evil doesn’t become good, just because it’s accepted by a majority.” To paraphrase Paul Harvey in 1965, “If I were the devil, socialist or progressive democrat, I would work overtime to bring misery. I would want to engulf the world in darkness: take over the United States of America, subvert the Church, and whisper, “Do as you please. To the young, I would whisper the Bible is a myth and man created God, instead of God created mankind. Bad is good and good is bad, and teach people to pray the Our Father that is in Washington and states under the United Nations global governance, we are here to help you?…

“I would get people organized and educate authors to make everything exciting: make TV and social media full of pornography and easy to obtain. I would hinder police, pedal narcotics and alcohol and tranquilize the rest with pills. I would have churches, families, neighborhoods schools, towns and nations at war with themselves. I would have media fan the flames. I would have schools ignore common sense and dwell only on emotion. I would not punish those who break the law and dishonor the law abiding. I would have judges who promote pornography, evict God from everything and let kids run the world.

“I would have churches substitute psychology for religion, deify science, misuse boys and girls and money. I would symbolize Easter with an egg, Christmas with a bottle, and take from those who have and give to those who want it. I would kill the incentive of the ambitious, get whole states to promote gambling: caution against extremes such as hard work, patriotism, moral conduct, marriage (one man and woman), moral living. I would say anything is OK and sex is only for fun. I would say what you see on TV and hear on the radio is the way to be. I would take away God’s authority and parent’s authority and let the State dictate low life to wrap the masses. I would have elites live off the fat of the lamb.”

Now I did update Paul Harvey’s 1965 writing but only to bring light to the society and government of 2024.

Do we don’t want this? We cannot have this in Vermont. We must all stand up to this tyranny! What is your walkaway after shining a light on the supermajority’s utter insanity?
