Tax control guru Grover Norquist to speak at GOP convention Nov. 18

A national leader in tax reform will address the Vermont GOP convention in Burlington November 18.

Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform will speak at the full-day State Convention of the Vermont Republican Party on Saturday November 18 at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Burlington.

Grover Norquist (Twitter: @GroverNorquist) is president of Americans for Tax Reform (ATR), a taxpayer advocacy group he founded in 1985 at President Reagan’s request. ATR works to limit the size and cost of government and opposes higher taxes at the federal, state, and local levels and supports tax reform that moves towards taxing consumed income one time at one rate.

Norquist chairs the Washington, DC-based Wednesday Meeting, a weekly gathering of more than 150 elected officials, political activists, and movement leaders. The meeting started in 1993 and takes place in ATR’s conference room. There are now 51 similar center-right meetings in 45 states.

Earlier this week, VTGOP Chairman Paul Dame posted the following video announcement for the convention, outlining the format of this event in a break from traditionally closed meetings.

”This will be a first-of-its kind event for us,” said Chairman Dame. “We’ll have some training for our newly elected party leaders, as well as some policy panels, moderated by some of our currently elected Republicans to give the public a better sense of what Republicans would be doing and focusing on if we had the majority.”

In addition to the workshops, the Republican State Committee will elect its state party leadership team, including State Chairman, in order to begin preparations for the 2024 election.
