New Montpelier City GOP committee to caucus, pick JP candidates on Saturday

The newly-created Montpelier City GOP Committee will select Justice of the Peace candidates at its fall caucus Saturday, August 6.

The event will be held 4-8 pm at the New Shelter in Hubbard Park, Montpelier. There will be food, socializing, and other committee business as well.

“Out of 14 Justice’s of the Peace in Montpelier, we have zero Republican representation,” Committee Chair Flora Scott said. “This is our chance to tip the scale, so don’t be bashful. The only requirement is concern. Everyone with and without experience in politics is encouraged to come if for no other reason than to mingle and connect with like-minded people.

Any Montpelier citizen can run or be nominated for Justice of the Peace. If there is a nomination of an individual who is not in attendance, the maker of the nomination must have the expressed consent of the nominee. The election for Justices of the Peace will be held on Election Day, November 8.

“You can make a difference…and new friends,” Scott said. “Looking forward to meeting you.”
