Burlington police arrested a 20-year-old man early Friday morning after he pointed a loaded handgun at people during a disturbance downtown.
At about 1:16 a.m. on September 4, officers were called to College Street near Thorsen Way for a report of a man waving a firearm. A responding officer spotted Isaac Walters of Winooski and tried to stop him. Walters ran, and the officer chased him on foot, bringing him to the ground. Walters kept resisting as the officer tried to handcuff him. An unarmed community service officer arrived and helped get him under control.
Walters was found carrying a loaded 9mm handgun. Investigators later determined that a series of earlier arguments had led him to pull out the gun and aim it at several people he had been fighting with. Those people scattered and took cover, fearing they would be shot.
Walters is scheduled to appear for arraignment later on September 4, 2026, at Chittenden Superior Court.
