Burlington police are investigating a reported gunfire incident that prompted a large response late Monday night on North Winooski Avenue.
Officers were called to the area of North Winooski Avenue and Grant Street at about 9:36 p.m. on Dec. 22 after receiving multiple reports of gunshots. Witnesses also reported seeing several people running from the area, police said.
As officers arrived, they located and detained three people of interest. Investigators later recovered ballistic and firearm-related evidence from the scene.
Following the initial investigation, police arrested Nathan Washington, 46, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Washington was cited to appear in court on Jan. 6, at 8:30 a.m. on charges of reckless endangerment and being a person prohibited from possessing firearms.
A second suspect, Shelly Sanders, 42, of Burlington, was arrested and lodged at the Northwest State Correctional Facility on an unrelated arrest warrant, according to police.
Authorities said the incident is believed to be isolated and involved individuals who knew one another. No injuries were reported.
