The Vermont Republican Party honored four legislators Thursday night during its annual VTGOP Awards Night, recognizing their leadership and contributions to both the caucus and their communities.
The awards were presented during a celebration in South Burlington attended by party members, supporters, and elected officials.
The night’s guest speaker was Erick Erickson of Georgia, a syndicated radio show host on 56 affiliates. In 2024 he organized “The Gathering,” which attracted 1,000 attendees from 47 states to hear from key Republican figures like Mike Pence, Ron DeSantis, and Mitch McConnell.
Rep. Rob North of Ferrisburgh received the Rookie of the Year award, which goes to a freshman legislator who has made significant contributions to the Republican caucus.
Rep. Pattie McCoy of Poultney, the House Minority Leader, was named the George Schiavone Legislator of the Year, an award chosen by peers to recognize significant legislative achievement.
Rep. Chris Taylor of Milton earned the Don Turner “Local Leader” of the Year award for demonstrating outstanding leadership at the town and municipal level. Turner, the former House Minority Leader, died in 2024. A longtime firefighter and chief, he was also the Milton town manager, a position now held by Taylor.
Rep. Mike Tagliavia of Corinth received the People’s Choice Award, voted on by Republicans across Vermont to honor a current legislator who stands out among their colleagues. The freshman co-sponsored several high-profile bills and hosts a podcast, The Right Side.
