Honduran fugitive wanted for trafficking weapons detained on immigrant charge 

An illegal immigrant listed as a wanted international fugitive for a weapons trafficking charge in Honduras has been ordered jailed in Vermont by a federal judge. Yubert Yasiel Lopez-Lopez, 31, of Burlington appears to have been living in Vermont for at least two years despite having been ordered removed from the United States four times over the past 11 years, federal court records show.

Gunman gets 6½ years for kidnapping Good Samaritan  

Barry C. Perez, 39, formerly of Hartford, Conn., also learned he will be on supervised release for five years once he is discharged from federal prison. Chief Federal Judge Christina Reiss also ordered Perez to make $44,626 in restitution for damage to a box truck, which officials said he had stolen and crashed just before the Good Samaritan stopped to help.

Police investigate fatal shooting in Brandon

Vermont State Police officers are investigating a suspicious shooting death of a 46-year-old Brandon man over the weekend. The victim, Brian Bailey, was found unresponsive inside his home on Champearl Road shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday, state police said in a news release. Bailey was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders, police said in the release.

Three-time Bradford felon facing murder charge for missing friend

James D. Nickles Jr., 42, is now facing a charge of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Corey Crooker, 43, of Bradford, according to records in Vermont Superior Court in Chelsea. Judge Daniel Richardson also found probable cause for a felony charge of unauthorized removal and disposal of a body without a state permit and with a misdemeanor count of false information to Vermont State Police.

Bradford man says he killed friend

Detective Sgt. Lyle Decker spoke to a confidential informant (CI) that said he learned “Nickles shot Crooker with 2 shots to the head and a shotgun blast to the chest. The CI said they burned the body and decapitated Crooker’s head,” Merriam wrote.

Man sentenced for killing, dismembering wife in VT

Ferlazzo went out for breakfast the morning after shooting his wife twice in the head during an anniversary celebration trip in their camper Saturday Oct.16 in Bolton, according to court records. He later drove her body to a St. Albans driveway where he dismembered the body with a hacksaw and placed the body parts in plastic bags.
