Burlington GOP meets Friday to name Ward 3 Council candidate

The Burlington Republican Committee will hold an emergency meeting by Zoom at 7:30 pm to nominate a candidate for the open Ward 3 City Council seat.

Interested attendees may contact Karen Rowell at karenburlington@yahoo.com for the link.

A special election for Ward 3 voters only will be held 7 am – 7 pm Tuesday August 17, according to the city website. The election became necessary when Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger appointed current Ward 3 councilor Brian Pine, a Progressive, to lead the Community Economic Development Office.

The city Democratic committee has nominated Owen Milne, executive director of the Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center. The Progressives – who have a firm grip on both council seats in the New North End ward – had five candidates appear at a June 9 Zoom candidate forum. No Republicans ran in the 2019 City Council election.

The Clerk/Treasurer’s Office will be mailing absentee ballots for the August 17 election to all active, registered voters for the Ward 3 Special City Council Election. Ballots will be mailed no later than Friday, July 2.

Voters may return ballots in the following ways:
