The public first Turning Point USA event in Barre has been postponed

The specific date, and the list of guests, is still up in the air and may need to be postponed from the initially announced 5-7 PM, Friday January 9 date/time.

The event is being organized by Seth Fewer, a freshman at Spaulding High School, who has been working to establish a Turning Point USA presence in the Barre area. Monday afternoon Fewer told VDC:  “Looks like we have to cancel it. Looking to do it February 21, or 22, or 23. Nothing official yet.”

An effort to start an official Turning Point USA chapter at Spaulding High School was unsuccessful after none of the eight teachers approached agreed to serve as a faculty sponsor, a requirement for school-based clubs.

Despite that setback, Fewer said the organizing effort has continued outside the school setting. Instead of a school club, the group has formed what it calls a Turning Point USA “activism hub,” which operates independently of Spaulding High School.

“We switched over to what is called an ‘activism hub’ because we asked eight teachers who all said no,” Fewer said. “The activism hub is the same thing — it’s just not for school.”

The event is open to the public, but organizers are asking attendees to rsvp in advance. All questions may be directed to tpusavt@gmail.com. VDC will announce further details as they become available.

Speakers include Fewer, co-organizer and fellow Spaulding freshman Javion Kastner, Vermont Chair Paul Dame, and Renee McEvilly, the Upstate Field Representative of Club America, affiliated with TPUSA. Others – including Barre native Gov. Ph8l Scott – have been invited.

In a message inviting community members to attend, Fewer said the Jan. 9 event will feature several speakers, free food, photo opportunities and the presentation of an award. The event is scheduled to run from 5 to 7 p.m.

Turning Point USA is a national conservative youth organization that focuses on political activism and outreach, particularly among high school and college students.
