Volunteers with the ASPCA and other Vermont and regional animal organizations removed about 50 huskies from a Lamoille County barn a week ago, according to ASPVA social media and the News & Citizen.
A March 12 news story by News & Citizen editor Tommy Gardner said “a small army” of gray-shirted ASPCA workers, many with out-of-state plates, removed the dogs from a barn on Cleveland Corners Road in Hyde Park. The operation appeared to be planned and coordinated with local la2 enforcement.
Many of the dogs were tethered to chains with limited ability to move freely and/or living in kennels saturated with urine and with a strong smell of ammonia, according to ASPCA social media.
Some of the dogs appeared to be underweight and showed signs of dehydration, and no food or water appeared to be present, the ASPCA said.
The animals were transported to an ASPCA recovery facility, where they received forensic and behavioral exams, and received medical and behavioral care.
The News & Citizen said it is unclear if anyone will face charges, but promised to report further this week.
