A West Rutland woman is facing multiple charges after police say she left her two young children alone in a motel room early Wednesday morning.
According to the Vermont State Police, troopers began investigating at about 1:12 a.m. on Feb. 25 after receiving a report that two children had been left unattended at the Cortina Inn.
Police say their investigation revealed that the children’s mother, 34-year-old Jessica Hedberg of West Rutland, had abandoned the children at the hotel. Troopers determined the children were able to leave the room on their own and were later found in what authorities described as a dangerous situation.
Hedberg was later located and taken into custody without incident. She was charged with two counts of cruelty to a child and two counts of domestic assault.
She was issued a citation to appear in the Vermont Superior Court on Feb. 26 at 12:30 p.m. Hedberg was ordered held at the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility on $750 bail and issued court-ordered conditions of release.
Police did not release the ages of the children.
