A candlelight vigil will be held in honor of slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk Friday 7:30 – 8:30 PM at Fred Mold Park in St. Johnsbury.
“Though this candlelight vigil will be remembrance of Charlie Kirk, I encourage anyone that feels that they would like to hold candles in representation for any of the other horrible tragedies that have happened in the weeks past,” organizer Patrick Mayhew said on Facebook.
“Something horrible is happening in America, we are divided and have forgotten what our country was founded on,” Mayhew said. “Fighting amongst each other will never be the solution. Charlie was a man slain because of his opinions, beliefs and trying to have conversations on some of the most difficult topics that we deal with as a society. That should never be acceptable in our nation.”
Another candlelight vigil for Kirk will be held 7 PM Friday at Riverside Middle School in Springfield.
Meanwhile, much of Vermont’s media has been muted-to-silent on the assassination of Kirk last Wednesday and on the Vermonters’ reaction. VDC has reached out for comment to three prominent Vermont news media outlets who – by website searches, anyway – have not yet covered the aftermath (vigils, statements by Gov. Scott and Congressional delegation, etc.). We hope to report on their response(s) tomorrow.
There is certainly no lack of interest. VDC’s Facebook page alone has received more than 1,000,000 views in the last seven days – most of it CK-related.
