DUI and (and also domestic abuse) press releases from the Vermont State Police are so common that we (and many other Vermont media) often don’t publish their contents.
When the same crime has been happening almost daily for decades, the news media and readers tend to tune out these news reports as ‘background noise.’ Only when serious injury, death, or some other drastic event happens does a DUI typically merit news coverage.
At VDC, we’ve decided that needs to change. Beginning in Monday’s Police Blotter, VDC will publish the names of people arrested for DUI.
