Transparency tool shows, town by town, where increased school spending has NOT led to better learning

By Clara Morrison, Right for Vermont

Vermont will spend more than $2.5 billion this year on public education, even though student enrollment has fallen by roughly 30% since the late 1990s. Per-pupil spending now exceeds $30,000 each year, placing Vermont among the highest-spending states in the nation. But this unprecedented level of investment has not translated into improved student outcomes.

Until now, it hasn’t been easy to see where the money goes or how schools compare because the underlying data is spread across multiple state agencies and reports.

That’s why the Right for Vermont Foundation launched the Education Transparency Dashboard, a new public resource that brings together state assessment results, per-pupil spending, staffing data, and school information into a single, easy-to-use platform.

Whether you’re a parent, taxpayer, journalist, policymaker, or simply a curious Vermonter, the dashboard makes it easier to explore, compare, and better understand Vermont’s public education system.
