
Thousands of homes and businesses were left without power statewide throughout the day yesterday after a snowstorm swept through the area on Sunday night and Monday morning, the Journal-Opinion reports.
While the snowfall was relatively light in the Connecticut River Valley, some parts of the interior in Vermont received more than half a foot of wet, slushy snow.
Nearly, 34,000 customers across Vermont were without power early Monday morning. That number had dwindled to less than 9,000 by late yesterday afternoon. However, internet outages remain a problem in parts of central Vermont, especially Berlin and Barre.
In Corinth, 465 Green Mountain Power and Washington Electric Cooperative customers were without power as of yesterday at 6:30 p.m. Hundreds more in Newbury, Vershire, Chelsea, Bradford, and Topsham were also still without power.
In a statement posted to its website, Washington Electric Cooperative said that it expected a “significant number” of customers to remain without power overnight.
UPDATE (6:30 a.m.): Per VTOutages.org, there were nearly 6,700 customers around the state without power with Corinth leading the way among municipalities at 372. Vershire had 266.
