The Vermont State Police on November 10 congratulated Lieutenant Colonel James Whitcomb on his retirement after nearly 28 years of service with the Vermont State Police.
After earning his Bachelor of Arts in Education degree from St. Michael’s College, Whitcomb followed his calling to public service and embarked on a career in law enforcement. Throughout his tenure with the Vermont State Police, he served as a road trooper, detective, and commander of the Underwater Recovery Team.
He rose through the command ranks to ultimately become Lieutenant Colonel and Deputy Director of the agency.
“I’ve been very lucky to work alongside exceptional people who strive every day to provide outstanding service to Vermonters and our visitors,” Whitcomb shared. He often notes that he never imagined he would one day hold such a senior leadership position, crediting the dedicated professionals of the agency and the meaningful work they accomplished together.
“We extend our sincere gratitude to Lieutenant Colonel Whitcomb for his decades of leadership, commitment, and service to the people of Vermont. Congratulations on a remarkable career and a well-earned retirement,” the VSP said.
