A school bus slid off Route 12 and overturned in Middlesex on Wednesday, one of dozens of weather-related crashes reported across Vermont as a daylong snowstorm made travel treacherous. No students were on board, and the driver suffered only minor injuries, according to Vermont State Police.

The crash was among 44 incidents troopers responded to between midnight and 3 p.m. as heavy snow coated roads across the state. Police said 29 crashes occurred in northern Vermont and 15 in the southern part of the state. Fourteen of the incidents happened on interstate highways, while 30 were reported on secondary roads.

Despite the high volume of crashes, no significant injuries have been reported.

Road crews continued working throughout the day to plow and treat highways and local roads as snow persisted into the afternoon.

State police urged drivers to slow down, allow extra time for travel, keep plenty of distance for stopping, and wear seat belts if they must be on the roads during the storm.
