At some point this year, or before, you found the Vermont Daily Chronicle. Maybe a friend referred you. Maybe you saw a post on social media. Maybe you responded to a Facebook ad.
I hope you have enjoyed our unique blend of news and commentary. The Chronicle is free to read for all, and alway will be. And that’s by design. More than ever, Vermont needs the news, opinion and commentary we offer.
We can afford to publish because we crowdsource.
The dictionary defines crowdsourcing as “the practice of obtaining needed services, ideas, or content by soliciting contributions from a large group of people and especially from the online community rather than from traditional employees or suppliers.”
We crowdsource news and commentary.
In 2022 we added many new reporters, op-ed writers and commenters. Sure, as the editor and main reporter I love “getting the story” every day – ferreting out and reporting news that matters. But I am so thankful for the many regular and occasional writers, and the hundreds who submitted the 30,000+ comments last year.
We crowdsource expenses – including finding new readers.
One of our biggest expenses is finding new readers. Unlike the Chronicle, marketing isn’t free. At present, about five percent of subscribers put the “crowd” in our crowdsourcing. If you haven’t already, please “join the crowd:” pay it forward to many subscribers-to-be by sending a Contributing Subscriber check for $108/year to Vermont Daily Chronicle, P.O. Box 1547, Montpelier, VT 05601, or make a monthly or one-time contribution via PayPal.
