The shooting occurred Thursday afternoon in Montgomery and stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the two neighbors about the maintenance of their private road.

During an argument, Morrell produced a .22-caliber revolver and shot Temple one time in the torso.

Investigators from the Vermont State Police, Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, game wardens from the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife, the U.S. Border Patrol, and Enosburg Rescue responded to the scene.

Morrell was taken into custody and ordered to be released on a citation to appear for arraignment in Vermont Superior Court in St. Albans tomorrow.

Temple remains hospitalized at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, where he is undergoing treatment for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
