This week I mailed letters to our esteemed, can’t-do-it-without-you Sustaining Subscribers asking them to, again, stand and deliver on behalf of truly independent news in Vermont. For those of you who have already contributed your $108 for 2026, I just don’t have the words – what rare thing that is! – to adequately express my gratitude.
But I will try. You are the best. You are priceless. Your generosity ensures that no shadowy owner or NGO or pre-eminent donor calls the shots about what’s news and what’s not.
If you have not yet contributed by mail (VDC, P.O. Box 1547, Montpelier VT 05641) or online (quick and secure), please join the hundreds of Vermonters who value our unique contribution to the Vermont newscape. We need you on deck during 2026 because fixed costs are up and we’re growing. New to VDC in 2025:
- We publish VDC SIX days a week. Monday thru Saturday we publish at least 10 edited news and commentary pieces posted on WordPress, Facebook, X, and Telegram and emailed in a single, daily edition.
- We publish the Burlington Daily News daily. Dedicated reporter-editor Kolby LaMarche, a Burlington grad and native, breaks stories about the Queen City you won’t see anywhere else.
- We’re on the radio Monday-Friday with Hot Off The Press on WDEV.
- VDC readership surpassed two million views for the first time. As of today we’re at 2.5 million views on WordPress website, up 48% from last year. Facebook views surpass 10 million for the last three months alone, up over 50%. Facebook engagements are up 63%.
New on January 1, 2026: all commenters must be Sustaining Subscribers. We made this move after months of discussion and with some regret. But in order to keep VDC free to read, it’s gotta happen.

Thank you for reading this and we look forward to another year of free speech and freedom of the press in 2026.
