LETTERS: Rev. Wheeler at VTGOP convention and H.887 veto

(Rev. Ed Wheeler of Middlebury gave this nomination acceptance speech for National Committeeman May 18 at the Vermont GOP Presidential Convention. He wasn’t elected, but the speech is worth publishing. – Ed.)

“Okay! If you’re wondering why this is happening – some friends of mine think I need another job! But seriously – it would be a great honor for me to serve in this role. I’ve been studying the national and international issues at hand for 40 years. I spent 20 years in an Asian country. That’s where we actually raised our children. We have three children (2 adopted). We have 4 grandchildren. I got to see America from a global perspective and I realized how precious and how fragile freedom is! And it’s being stolen in our country! And along with freedom comes prosperity! When freedom goes prosperity is going with it!

That’s what motivates me and would motivate me to participate on the national level with the RNC.

I did have a business here in Vermont for 15 years so I know a lot about the reality of that. In fact, I remember Wendy Wilton was the Treasurer in Rutland where one of my business locations were. I have also been the pastor of church for 16 years. So I am an electrical engineer- that was my role overseas but I am also aware of peoples’ spiritual needs, emotional needs, the things that are going on with our children and our families.

Specifically, I am interested in helping small GOP committees in blue States. So not just Vermont, but I want to contact all the people from such states and my proposal is that the RNC… You know they spend something like 400 million dollars every election cycle … What if every state got a minimum of one half of 1 percent? That would be two million dollars! That would be $500,000 every year! Would that help Paul? [Paul Dame- “Yes”] You know the Democrats in Vermont have I think it’s 12 full time staff people. [Paul Dame- “I think it’s 8.”] Okay, 8! How many do we have? [Paul Dame- “You’re looking at him!”] And you’re not full time! [Paul Dame- “Correct!”] You see that’s … and look at us! Here we are! Just imagine if we got a little more fuel added to the fire! I think we could do a lot!

Whether you elect me or not I can guarantee you I will be dedicating all available effort to exposing and opposing the Marxist agenda to take down the United States! Some people want to “fundamentally transform” America! Transform from what to what? From a constitutional republic based on faith in God to an atheistic socialist Marxist hellhole! So let’s work together to make America good again! To make America Godly again! To make America American again! Let’s make America great again! Thank you!”

Change your vote on school funding bill, Colchester resident asks reps – An open letter to Colchester Representatives Austin, Chase and Taylor – Given that Gov. Scott is expected to veto H.887, I implore you to Change Your Vote and Support the Governor’s Veto of H.887.

The following article from Vermonters for Good Government explains the adverse tax implications to Vermont tax payers that are unaffordable.  Of concern is that the average 14% increase in property taxes will also continue for the next 3 years due to “H.887 does set up a “Commission on the Future of Public Education” made up of the usual special-interest suspects representing the public education establishment, which will not present its final recommendations for “solutions” for two years.”  Another kicking the can down the road, with no relief for Vermont’s taxpayers!

To further quote VFGG, “H.887 is not Good Government!” I respectfully request that you change your vote and support the Governor’s Veto. -George Verdon, Colchester
