A U-32 High School school bus windshield was shot out near the Agway train tracks on Rte. 2/East Montpelier Road on Thursday, October 26, at about 3:24 p.m., according to the Montpelier Police Department.
Montpelier police say they “processed a homeless encampment close by where several individuals were present with firearms.” MPD added that ‘three people have been detained at this time, while the investigation continues.” MPD did not say if the detainees are residents of the encampment.
The shooting incident was reported by First Student Bus Service, which stated that the bus was occupied at the time of the incident.
The bus driver and students onboard were not injured. Upon receiving the report, officers from multiple agencies responded to the scene, but the bus was not located. The driver had already moved the students to another bus to continue the route, and the damaged bus had returned to headquarters.
Officers later met with members of the U32 leadership team and notified all involved parents about the incident. The U32 staff assisted in providing video footage from the bus and important contact information for the officers.
Dead woman found in woods – The body of a woman in her 20’s was found in the woods in the town of Washington Wednesday. Police say the death is suspicious and an autopsy is being performed to determine cause of death. Hunters in the woods along Poor Farm Road in Washington discovered a body at about 2 p.m. and called police.
Deli arson arrest in Brattleboro – A local man was arrested on charges of arson, reckless endangerment of another person, unlawful mischief, and trespassing after an apparent attempt to set fire to a local market and deli, according to police.
The incident took place at Gougers Market and Deli on Canal Street on October 24, as reported to the Brattleboro Police Department. Following the investigation, police arrested Dennis Mayotte, a 37-year-old Brattleboro resident, in connection with the incident. Mayotte is currently being held on a $50,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on October 26.
Rutland man with multiple felony warrants busted for fentanyl dealing – 34-year-old West Rutland man was arrested on multiple warrants including fentanyl trafficking, cocaine possession, violation of conditions of release, and possession of stolen property, according to police.
Joseph Siliski was apprehended on Oct. 26 by the police department’s Outreach Division during a routine walkthrough at Sheldon Towers in response to residents’ safety concerns. The police department was aware of Siliski’s multiple felony warrants, with bail totaling $40,100.
After being located, Siliski entered a vehicle and left the scene. A description of the vehicle was aired to City Police Officers who located and detained Siliski shortly thereafter. Siliski was then taken into custody and transported to the Rutland County Criminal Court for arraignment.
