Numerous arrests for theft, domestic assault, DUI over weekend

A Connecticut man with a drug arrest and conviction history from 2018 and 2015 will be arraigned today on a fugitive from justice charge.
On March 20, state police learned that Jonathan Ayala, 34, of Hartford Connecticut had an extraditable arrest warrant out of the state of Connecticut for a parole violation. Ayala was currently lodged at the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility and due to be released. He was cited in court for March 23, bail was set at $25.000 and lodged at the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility.
Vermont State Police reported a series of other arrests and investigations across the state over the past several days, led by theft cases in Lamoille and Caledonia counties, along with multiple assault and DUI incidents.
Burglary / Thefts
- In Jeffersonville, Dakota Spalding, 25, was cited for two counts of grand larceny after allegedly stealing more than $3,000 in clothing over several months from two local women. He is due in Lamoille County court March 25.
- In St. Johnsbury, Michelle Vance, 44, and Scott Keithan, 50, both of Lyndon, were arrested following a retail theft at Morrison Feed Bag. Vance was held without bail on a parole violation, while Keithan was jailed on an outstanding warrant that includes a DUI-related offense.
Assaults
- In Jeffersonville, Phoenix Drake, 22, was arrested on charges of first-degree aggravated domestic assault and interference with access to emergency services after allegedly placing a household member in a headlock. He was held without bail.
- In Pittsford, Charles Vargas, 73, was cited to answer charges including first-degree aggravated domestic assault after police say he injured a family member.
- In Wells/Fair Haven, William Makepeace, 21, was issued a citation following a follow-up investigation into a domestic assault involving a former partner.
DUI Arrests
- Matthew Santaw, 21, of Barton, was arrested on Interstate 91 in Lyndon for DUI and violations of conditions of release; held on $5,000 bail.
- Aaron Bouchard, 47, of Bennington, was arrested for DUI following a traffic stop and later released to a sober party.
- Ann Duff, 32, of Putney, was arrested for DUI after a traffic stop on I-91.
- Ciaran Keenan, 22, of Sayville, NY, was arrested for DUI following a crash on Killington Road that resulted in injuries.
- David Gore, 63, of Orange, was arrested for DUI refusal in Putney.
- Seamus Tully, 30, of Bellows Falls, was cited for DUI after a crash in Rockingham.
- Julia Frailey, 72, of Waterbury, was arrested for DUI following a traffic stop.
- Matthew McNall, 61, of Fairfax, was arrested for DUI after police investigated a suspicious vehicle.
- Kyra Carey, 26, of Barton, was arrested for DUI along with excessive speed and negligent operation after allegedly driving 95 mph in a 55 mph zone.
- Conner Taylor, 23, of Ludlow, MA, was arrested for DUI and reckless-related charges on I-91 in Westminster.
- Shannon Gaetz, 48, of Corinth, was arrested for DUI and negligent operation following a crash in Tunbridge.
Police note that all charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
