The Vermont State Police has identified Douglas Morrill, 61, of Granville as the second victim of a crash in Warren late Monday night.
Police say Morrill was driving north on Vermont Route 100 around a right-hand curve before the crash and was fully within his lane of travel. Harley LaPlante, 37, of Warren was driving southbound but was completely within the northbound lane. The vehicles collided in the northbound lane and came to rest blocking Route 100. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
The fatal crash was first reported to media in the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 15. Anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to call VSP’s Berlin Barracks at 802-229-9191.
Stuckage driver ignored signs, believed he could make it through – Shortly after 11 AM on Tuesday August 15, state police responded to Smugglers Notch for a tractor trailer that attempted to pass through and got stuck. Driver Billy Tolson, 66, of Loraine Ohio told police he ignored all of the signs leading up to the notch as he believed he could make it through.
Tolson said he was on his way to Franklin Foods in Enosburg. The Notch was closed for several hours while McRae’s Towing removed the vehicle. The company Tolson works for, Eagle Logistics in Avon Lake, Ohio, was issued a traffic ticket with a fine of $2,347.00 and 2 points. – Newport Dispatch
Cops seeking speeding motorcyclist in Cambridge – Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a motorcycle and driver that has fled law enforcement twice in the area of North Cambridge Road.
On August 15, police attempted to stop a purple sport bike for a speed violation. The driver fled police at a high rate of speed.
Police say the motorcycle has been seen multiple times in this area. Anyone with information on the owner/operator of the motorcycle is asked to contact Trooper Cote at the Williston barracks. – Newport Dispatch
