This week, Vermont Daily has scheduled a lineup of five provocative commentaries on current issues written by thoughtful Vermonters.
Today, Chelsea farmer and selectboard member and Washington DC escapee Levar Cole of describes why granting special home ownership on the basis of race is a bad idea for everyone involved.
Tuesday – two weeks away from Town Meeting, March 2 – longtime Cambridge resident and selectboard member George Putnam reviews a podcast about how the pandemic has changed Vermont’s annual exercise in participatory local government – and not for the better, some people interviewed say.
Wednesday – school funding reformer Neil Robinson of Rutland County discusses a breathtakingly simple solution to Vermont education tax inequality.
Thursday – Bruce Lindner of Colchester addresses the annual attack of the Vermont Legislature on the Constitutional right to bear arms.
Friday – concerned Burlington resident Tom Licata warns city officials complicit in reducing police patrols they will be held legally responsible for any added crime that may result.
We’re not normally so organized as to announce these commentaries in advanced. But it’s an aspirational goal worth pursuing. In these days of media cancellation, one of the best things about Vermont Daily is the forum it provides for concerned Vermonters to speak up and speak out.
