Cabot man pleads innocent to punching pregnant woman in stomach, pouring turpentine on her

A Cabot man is charged with assault after he reportedly struck a pregnant woman in the stomach three times and poured turpentine on her skin.

At 5 pm Dec. 5, the Vermont State Police responded to a report of a domestic altercation in Cabot. Before their arrival, the suspect, George Grant, 38, fled the scene.

Police say Grant had assaulted a family member by striking her and pouring turpentine on her. On Dec. 6, troopers located Grant [reportedly smelling of turpentine] and arrested him in Cabot. Charged with First Degree Aggravated Domestic Assault, he was then lodged at the Northeast Correctional Facility.

According to a report in the Caledonian-Record, the 44-year-old victim told police “that Grant punched her in the stomach about three times with his fist and then poured turpentine on her exposed skin.” Grant was trying to kill her unborn baby, she said.

Grant pleaded innocent in Washington County court in Montpelier.
