Woman shoots, kills man after bar dispute

A Burlington bar fight led to shooting death early this morning, police say.

Shortly after midnight Saturday, August 24, 2024, the Burlington Police Department dispatch center received radio traffic from a Community Service Officer (CSO) who was on foot in City Hall Park.

The CSO reported that he had heard multiple gunshots. Officers responded and located a man who had been struck by gunfire. They immediate vply began CPR. An off-duty officer who was nearby also assisted. At the same time, another officer approaching the scene encountered and apprehended a female suspect, Aaliyah Johnson, 22, and recovered a .45 caliber pistol.

Officers attempting to provide medical care to the victim were hampered by a large crowd that surrounded the officers. This crowd had to be pushed back in order to preserve the crime scene, which included shell casings, bullets, and blood evidence.

The man who was struck was identified as Teville Williams, 30, of Stowe. He was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center and declared dead there.

Police say an altercation developed between Williams and Johnson inside Red Square, in which Williams allegedly assaulted Johnson. Staff from the bar required both parties to leave, via separate doors.

Johnson exited one door and moved towards the other to confront Williams on Church Street. She then allegedly shot him several times.

This investigation is in its earliest stages and the Department will provide more information as the case develops. This shooting is not believed to be associated with the incidents described in an earlier BPD press release on Friday, August 23. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Burlington Police Department at (802) 658-2704.
