It’s safe once again to travel to Wells Beach, Ogunquit, and most other popular Maine coast beaches. But most of southeastern New Hampshire, including the seacoast – long a “safe” area for Covid-quarantine wary travelers – is now too hot to visit.

A regional map published Friday by the Vermont Department of Financial Regulation shows that Maine’s two southern-most counties (including York) are both “in the green,” meaning they have fewer than 400 active Covid cases per million of residents. By contrast, much of southeastern NH and all of its seacoast is “in the yellow,” indicating 400 – 799 cases per million. Vermonters visiting any county yellow or higher must quarantine for 14 days upon return per the Covid-19 regulations enacted by Gov. Phil Scott.
