Next we have an article about there is a great need for employees of all skill levels, even a near by ad for Flaggers starting at $17.25 an hour with a sign on bonus. This is a problem that should be solved now. Not when it is wintery weather. To tolerate the situation now and panic when the snow flies is bound to be much more expensive. This was the case when the State department responsible indicated what it cost the taxpayers for motel/hotel rooms. At least some homeless prefer the tents etc as they fear for their safety and their property. Others report that they just like living outside in the good weather if the state provides for them in Winter. So there is at least several different levels for homelessness. Each should be specifically considered. All require compassion, creativity, imagination and lots of effort. In brief, homeless camps are not desirable, Period! Don’t tolerate them now. This should be “all shoulders to the grindstone”, Consider the problems and solve them now, regardless of Tent City residents’ personal preferences. If they have a job, give assistance. If not find out why. If because of drugs or alcohol the person should be in a shelter that treats the problem. If be cause of senility or psychiatric considerations provide supervised care. Families with children need assistance immediately. And not just throwing money at the people from the tax payers. Get the community on the “band wagon” and eliminate homelessness, now! Jobs equal Success! Is there a reason employers do not consider the Homeless for job vacancies? Perhaps they should make an extra effort?
