Monday, November 10th’s shift at the Vermont State Police New Haven barracks coincidentally included three Marines, who were proudly celebrating the 250th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps.
The Vermont State Police has a long and proud connection to the Marine Corps, beginning with the department’s first commissioner, Major General Merritt A. Edson — a Medal of Honor recipient and legendary Marine whose leadership helped shape the VSP’s early years.
“As the Corps celebrates its milestone anniversary, the Vermont State Police join in sending a loud and thunderous “Semper Fi” to their extended family in the Marines,” State Police said in a statement today.
In honor of the 250th, retired Marine Don Keelan will appear Wednesday on Hot Off The Press on WDEV to discuss a Marine Corps birthday celebration that took place this week at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington.
