Thursday, Dec. 1 shortly after midnight, Vermont State Police responded to I-89 southbound in Williston for a reported rolling Aggravated Assault. The caller advised that they were being assaulted in a vehicle traveling southbound on I 89 headed towards Waterbury. Troopers from the Berlin Barracks ultimately stopped the vehicle on Memorial Drive in the Town of Montpelier.
Troopers determined Walter Jones, 27, of Springfield MA, had assaulted two individuals inside the vehicle. Jones was arrested for Aggravated and Simple Assault and transported to the Berlin Barracks for processing.
At the conclusion of processing, Jones was issued a citation and taken to the Northwest State Correctional Facility where he was held without bail on an outstanding instate warrant.
It is unclear if the outstanding state warrant refers to either of two other drug-related, violent offenses with Vermont connections allegedly committed by a Walter Jones of Springfield, MA, who is the same age as yesterday’s arrestee, according to Massachusetts police reports.
In November, 2020, Springfield resident Walter Jones, 25, was arrested for drug and weapons violations with another Springfield resident and two Vermonters, Richard LeBlanc, 36, and Kristen Williams, 37, each of Burlington.
This March, Springfield resident Walter Jones, age 26 and with an active extraditable Vermont warrant for firearms charges, was driving a car on Orchard Street in Springfield, MA. An occupant fired shots at detectives trailing the pair in a car. They were arrested after a traffic stop.
