Two Dartmouth College fraternity members and a sorority are facing criminal charges in connection with the July drowning death of a college student, the Hanover, NH police said Friday, November 22.

On July 7, the Hanover Police Department launched an investigation into the death of Won Jang, a Dartmouth student whose body was found in the Connecticut River. Jang, a member of Beta Alpha Omega Fraternity, had attended an off-campus party hosted by the Alpha Phi Sorority at an apartment rented by sorority members. Many partygoers, including Jang, were under 21 and consuming alcohol, which was provided by members of Beta Alpha Omega who were over 21.

After the party, several attendees spontaneously swam in the river. A heavy rainstorm caused most to leave, but no one noticed Jang was missing. It was later confirmed through interviews that Jang, who could not swim, had drowned. His blood alcohol level was 0.167.

As a result of the investigation, Matthew Catrambone and Samuel Terry, members of Beta Alpha Omega, were charged with providing alcohol to minors. Additionally, the Alpha Phi Sorority was charged with facilitating underage drinking. All parties were summoned to appear in court.

Jang, a biomedical engineering student from New Jersey, was an active member of the fraternity, according to nextshark.com.
