Freeway crash in Milton kills Pennsylvania man

A Pennsylvania man died Monday night in Milton after a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 89 southbound.

Vermont State Police said that about 7:10 p.m., a 2021 Ram 3500 driven by 58-year-old Thomas Rehrig of Schuylkill Haven left the roadway, entered the median, and struck multiple trees before coming to rest.

Rehrig, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the truck and died before first responders arrived.

Milton Fire Department and Milton Rescue Squad assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

Troopers said that about 7:10 p.m. on Aug. 11, 24-year-old John Armstrong crashed his 2010 Chevrolet Silverado on VT Route 5A, taking down several trees.

Armstrong was not wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries.

Police say he resisted arrest at the scene, then at North Country Hospital attempted to assault healthcare providers, a security officer, and troopers — including spitting in an officer’s face — and repeatedly broke free from hospital restraints.

Armstrong is scheduled to appear in court on multiple charges including DUI, assault on a protected professional, and resisting arrest.

Troopers clock driver at 91 mph with child in vehicle
Vermont State Police stopped a Middlesex man in Barre after radar showed his vehicle traveling 91 mph in a 50-mph zone on VT Route 62.

Troopers said 36-year-old Joshua Dagostino had an 8-year-old child in the vehicle at the time.

He is scheduled to appear in Washington County Superior Court on Aug. 28.

Woman caught at border in stolen car
A Massachusetts woman was stopped in Highgate Springs after allegedly trying to enter the U.S. from Canada in a stolen Hyundai.

About 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 12, U.S. Customs and Border Protection notified troopers that 39-year-old Kristen Thrasher of Springfield, Mass., was at the Highgate Point of Entry in a car reported stolen from Chicopee, Mass.

Thrasher was cited for operating without owner’s consent and is due in court Sept. 8.

The vehicle was towed to the St. Albans barracks.
