SHORTS: Pieciak for Treasurer as a D

Mike Pieciak, former Commissioner for Dept. of Financial Regulation for the Scott administration, announced today he’s running for State Treasurer as a Democrat. At a press conference today he was praised for supporting trans youth health insurance and climate change initiatives while at DFR. Incumbent Beth Pearce is retiring due to health concerns. 

The Senate Appropriations Committee wants to control per diem expenses for the expanding number of state advisory board members. Language in current legislation would require state officials to limit per diems to $50 in most circumstances. 

Amtrak train service between Rutland and Burlington will resume this summer. Fares will be about $75 each way, according to a Seven Days report.

The House Government Operations Committee Wednesday restored limits on THC (the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis) on marijuana concentrates to be sold in licensed retail stores. The Senate had removed the caps imposed in the original House bill.  

If elected, Secretary of State candidate Chris Winters is poised to combat election “mis/dis and mal-information,” according to a Secretary of State press release. “It’s important that we take a holistic approach to defending our elections systems,” Deputy Secretary of State Winters said. “That means not just cyber, legal or process protections, but also being proactive in countering false narratives by providing trusted information based in fact and evidence and being transparent about how elections are conducted.”

Yesterday, Governor Scott signed H399, adjusting incarceration terms for criminal defendants who are primary caretakers of dependent children, and H731, technical corrections for the 2022 legislative session.

Vermonters turned in almost 3.5 tons of unused, unwanted and expired medication on the 22nd nationwide Prescription Drug Take Back Day this past Saturday.

Deputy Secretary of State Winters said. “That means not just cyber, legal or process protections, but also being proactive in countering false narratives by providing trusted information based in fact and evidence and being transparent about how elections are conducted.” …Saying nothing about the way and means ballots are counted. We need paper ballots to be hand counted. Not run through machines that we all know are connected to the internet.

  2. The man who drew the short straw to head the COVID scamdemic is running for Treasurer. What better way to cover up misdirected funds than being the rat hiding the cheese. Bill Sorrel is as crooked as a dog’s hind leg – how much money did he waste with his half-baked lawsuits? Time for the Vermont old guard to face the consequences of their actions.
