The Vermont Senate gave preliminary approval yesterday to S281, restrictions on hunting coyotes with dogs.
Unlike a total ban considered earlier this session, the amended S281 would:
- Allow up to 100 permits per year for coyote hunting with dogs, with a 10% maximum to non-residents, at $50/permit, and higher application fees for non-residents.
- Landowner permission is required.
- Require the Fish and Wildlife Board to develop regulations surrounding coyote hunting with dogs.
The bill proceeds to final approval today. If approved as expected, it will go to the House.
