Governor Phil Scott, legislative leaders, and others will hold a Freedom & Unity Vigil on the State House steps 6:30 pm Tuesday evening to show support for the people of Ukraine.
Following remarks, Governor Scott will sign into law H.717, An act relating to providing humanitarian assistance to the people of Ukraine.
Scheduled attendees include Governor Phil Scott, Congressman Peter Welch, House Speaker Jill Krowinski, Senate President Pro Tempore Becca Balint, Lt. Governor Molly Gray, Republican, Democratic, and independent lawmakers, members of the public and more.
Members of the public are encouraged to join and bring candles or lights.
H717 was introduced Tuesday and swiftly passed by the Legislature. It allocates $644,826 from the General Fund to provide one or more grants to be used for humanitarian assistance to the people of Ukraine. This sum is derived from $643,077, which equals one dollar for each Vermont resident per the 2020 Census; and $1,749, which equals the total amount of funds collected by the Vermont Department of Liquor and Lottery from sales of Russian-sourced products between February 24 and March 2.

OMG! We don’t need that money for road repairs, pension funds, helping destitute Vermonters, or helping homeless vets as much as Ukraine does. Billions will pour in world-wide but Vermont has to do its part. So sick of being a Vermonter.

I like seeing a headline saying gasoline is $5 in Johnson and another headline Gov Scott signs bill sending taxpayer money to the Ukraine. Would this constitute taxation without representation? We have no representation. We have no State. Welcome to the New World Order folks. Vermont is captured and we are prisoners of war.
