The son of Nancy Guthrie, the missing mother of Today Show’s Savannah Guthrie, was a longtime member of the Vermont Air National Guard.
Col. Charles “Camron” Guthrie, call sign “Arlo,” retired from military flying in 2018 after a 26-year career in the cockpit of an F-16.
His and Savannah’s mother, who has been missing since Saturday, is the center of a widely-publicized criminal investigation in Arizona.
He joined his two sisters, Savannah and Annie, issuing videotaped pleas Thursday for their mother’s return.
“We need to know, without a doubt, that she is alive, and that you have her. We want to hear from you, and we are ready to listen. Please, reach out to us,” Savannah said in a tearful statement, which she read while flanked by her Annie and Camron Guthrie.
The tense Guthrie drama is a 360-degree turn from nearly eight years ago when Savannah celebrated her brother’s Vermont military retirement on The Today show on August 6, 2018, saying she was “bursting with pride.”
“I’ve never been more proud of my big brother,” she posted at the time on Instagram. “He’s flown for our country for 26 years. He’s the pride of our family and one of this country’s finest.”
Camron on Thursday night issued a statement on Instagram to their 84-year-old mother’s alleged captors.
Camron, the eldest of Nancy’s three children, spoke on behalf of the family the prepared statement after a ransom note’s first deadline passed.
“Whoever is out there holding our mother, we want to hear from you. We haven’t heard anything directly. We need you to reach out and we need a way to communicate with you so we can move forward,” Camron said. “But first, we have to know that you have our mom. We want to talk to you, and we are waiting for contact.”
