Rowell: Burlington mayor’s “dictatorial inclinations on full display”

The letter below was sent by Burlington resident Karen Rowell to Burlington mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak about the mayor’s gag order on Burlington police, prompted by Chief Jon Murad’s statements about repeat offender Michael Reynolds. The gag order is published below.

Rowell notes what most of the Vermont media missed – January 9, the day the January 8 gag order became public knowledge, is national Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.

Rowell carbon-copied the letter to VDC. – Editor

This [see Mayor Emma Mulvaney’s statement, below] is completely unacceptable. This in response to one of the many criminals you are enabling who is a danger to the public. “Reynolds, a Burlington-area transient, has 1,850 police interactions and multiple convictions. He has 51 convictions, including six felonies. Following his last arrest he was jailed, facing several criminal charges.”

1,850 police interactions – and you make this move to protect HIM instead of us!?!? Are you insane? What is wrong with you? This administration and the so-called judicial system in Vermont is a complete joke, a laughingstock. Except because of the horrible consequences of your pathetic leadership, it is not funny.

This is how you mark Law Enforcement Appreciation Day?  Really? Your authoritarian arrogance is preventing you from the shame you should feel over this. You have, again, put your dictatorial inclinations on full display. Dictators are not leaders, Emma. People who protect the public and allow thoughts and ideas they do not espouse are leaders. You, Emma, are no leader.

And how much time is being spent going through the budget to remove irresponsible spending to lower the crushing taxes?  Or time spent working on suggestions to the legislature to create meaningful crime bills to protect our struggling businesses to make Burlington safe again like it was before the dems/progs ruined it? Or working on demolishing unused spaces like the Memorial Auditorium to create badly needed housing?

We have severe problems in this city and you spend your time protecting criminals and crushing free speech. Speech with which you do not agree. Like I said. Dictators are not leaders. They are cowards.

PS:  That injection site needs to go right beside YOUR house or any council member’s house who supports it and we’ll all see how you like it. That is what a real leader would do. Completely unacceptable.
