The Vermont Public Utilities Commission will hold a virtual hearing 6:30 PM tonight on Burlington Electric Department’s 20 year plan.
Tonight’s virtual public hearing was prompted by Nick Persampieri and Pike Porter, who petitioned the Vermont PUC for intervenor status in Burlington Electric’s Integrated Resource Plan approval process. The hearing gives the public a say in the future of the McNeil biomass power plant, Vermont’s single largest source of greenhouse gas emissions.
The Integrated Resource Plan is a 20 year plan that BED must submit every 3 years. This review process is an opportunity to shine a bright light on BED’s operation of the McNeil power plant, from impacts to ratepayers’ pocketbooks to impacts to public health, and other issues.

You can also submit written comments via the PUC website, via case No. 23-3799-PET. You need not be a BED customer to participate.
