NEWPORT — A team from North Country Hospital raised more than $6,000 at the American Cancer Society’s Hope on the Slopes fundraiser at Jay Peak Resort on March 1.

The hospital’s team, NCH Heroes for Hope, brought in $6,164 with 14 participants, surpassing its $5,000 goal. The team placed eighth out of 23 teams at the event, which brings together groups from across the region for a day of skiing and fundraising to support people and families affected by cancer.

The event exceeded its overall fundraising target, generating $105,423 against a goal of $100,000.

NCH Heroes for Hope also received the Buddy’s Spirit Award, which recognizes the team that shows the most energy, enthusiasm and heart throughout the event. The award honors the memory of a participant named Buddy.

“We are so proud of our NCH Heroes for Hope team,” said Tom Frank, President and CEO of North Country Hospital. “Winning the Buddy’s Spirit Award speaks volumes about who our team is. Events like Hope on the Slopes remind us that healthcare is about community, about showing up for one another. The energy and compassion our staff brought to the mountain reflects the same dedication they bring to caring for our patients every day.”

Hope on the Slopes is a nationwide fundraiser supporting the American Cancer Society’s mission to improve the lives of people with cancer through advocacy, research and patient services.
