by VDC staff

Vermont State Police have arrested a Morrisville man in connection with the killing of a Hardwick woman whose body was discovered along Route 14 in Woodbury earlier this summer.

Detectives on Tuesday, Aug. 19, took Michael A. Williams, 60, into custody on charges of second-degree murder and first-degree aggravated domestic assault in the death of 38-year-old Tina Daigle. Investigators say Daigle was killed in Caledonia County early June 19, and her body was later left at a roadside pull-off in Woodbury.

Williams was ordered jailed without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, in Vermont Superior Court’s Criminal Division in St. Johnsbury. The affidavit of probable cause is expected to be filed with the court and made public following his arraignment.

The Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington previously determined that Daigle died of asphyxiation caused by compression of the neck, ruling the manner of death a homicide.

Daigle’s body was first discovered around 3:30 p.m. June 19, prompting a large-scale investigation involving the state police Major Crime Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene Search Team, Field Force Division and Victim Services Unit.

Anyone with information that may help investigators is asked to call the VSP barracks in Berlin at 802-229-9191 or submit an anonymous tip online at https://vsp.vermont.gov/tipsubmit.

State police said additional details will be released as the case moves forward.

According to her obituary, Daigle attended Hardwick Elementary and graduated from Hazen Union High School

She was employed as an LNA in several Nursing Home’s in the Northeast Kingdom, as well as working at Morrisville Resources Thrift Store, and operated Tina’s Boutique, an online shop.

Her obituary said she enjoyed collecting items related to highland cows, native American culture and apples, the outdoors, all animals especially dogs, and time at the lake including fishing.
