McClaughry: Bernie so close to lifelong dream of lifetime entitlements

Editor’s note: Bernie Sanders will be holding several rallies in several communities over the Labor Day Weekend, including Sunday in Gardner Park in Newport.

Daniel Henninger, a Wall Street Journal columnist who I admire, had this to say recently about the likely effect of enactment of the Pelosi-Biden $3.5 trillion domestic spending bill.

“This is not just a bill about spending numbers, Henninger writes. “It is a do-or-die effort by the now-progressive party to enact four new lifetime entitlements—universal prekindergarten, universal child care payments, universal paid family and medical leave, and two years of community college. No one has been clearer about the stakes than Speaker Pelosi, who describes it as a “once in a generation” effort. She’s right.”

Henninger goes on to spell out the effects of this prodigious spending on the Federal government’s frightening debt expansion – a debt now greater than the value of the entire U.S. economy.

This enormous spending will necessarily cut back spending on national security and defense and other more justifiable federal programs. And it will make millions more Americans dependent on receiving cash and services financed by selling bonds – how long this can go on is a crucial but as of now indeterminate question.

Vermonters should take note that the $3.5 trillion entitlement expansion bill is the lifelong dream of Sen. Bernie Sanders, who astoundingly has become chairman of the Senate budget committee. He didn’t pull off the socialist revolution he favored in his radical youth, so now he’s trying to figure out how to make billionaires pay for it. Lots of luck.

  1. Real Americans’ Dream for Sanders is that he will be deported to Russia – his favorite honeymoon spot. He can fulfill all his dreams in Commie/Marxist Land where he belongs. America belongs to the People who have fought for Freedom, who’s ancestors Fought for Freedom and who honor our Flag and Constitution. It is a Nation founded on Judeo-Christian Values.

The People of Vermont and America are seeing in real-time what happens when a Country no longer acknowledges God.

    Liberty from God not men.

  2. Beanie would be sooo much happier in Havana where the government is socially responsible, life is good, and everything is free ! I’d buy a one way ticket for him so he could realize his goal. I’d just have to ask him to sign a document stating that he will not come back.

  3. Umm…bernie would never make it in Russia, Cuba, Venezuela or China. He’d be a nothing in these countries and be forced to work. Only in America can one live above poverty without working, living on entitlements, thanks to bernie and his ilk. bernie has been living off the labors of the taxpayer his entire adult life, one way or another. He was so successful at it- he’s now a multi millionaire. The rhetoric he has pushed into young minds, about entitlement and anti capitalism are exactly the things that made him rich. He is to socialism what Al Gore and John Kerry are to “Climate Change”. Successfully becoming rich pedaling fear, lies and hype. So successful, nancypelosi
has jumped on board to insure her “legacy”.

  4. The term ‘Lifetime Entitlement’ is a dangerous oxymoron, at best. Despite the Sander’s dream in which the mirage appears, it is the mythical story of Odysseus and the Sirens, and those who succumb to its seduction, dying on the enchanted shoreline ‘covered with bones and decomposing human debris’. Or, as Winston Churchill opined: ‘The equal sharing of misery’.

But this is more insidious than Sander’s ‘Socialism’. It’s nested in ‘The Great Reset’ and population control. It’s existential and world-wide. Humans have been deemed by an elitist cohort to be a threat to the planet and to themselves. Not only do self-described experts (omnipotent academic authoritarians) believe there are too many people, climate change and declining resources are inevitable. Individualism, freedom, and liberty – the so-called American Dream – is uncontrollable and, therefore, unsustainable.

Because we eat too much meat, methane from the animals we raise is contributing to our climate demise. Creating pastureland destroys forests.

Living in single family households, with its singularly inefficient transportation and consumption, depletes too many of our limited resources, all while adding CO2 to the atmosphere. The old and frail are unproductive and inefficient… and unnecessary.

Forbes reports that ‘Covid-19 Deaths Will Lessen Financial Hit To Social Security From Recession, Says Agency’s Top Actuary’. “The financial health of Social Security will be helped by deaths from Covid-19, Social Security Administration Chief Actuary Stephen Goss told Congress today.”

    As C.S. Lewis opined:
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies.… To be ‘cured’ against one’s will and cured of states which we may not even regard as disease is to be put on a level with those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals.”

Make no mistake. The only true ‘conspiracy theory’ is that this is all a mere conspiracy theory. They (whoever ‘they’ are) are coming for you. Forewarned is forearmed.

  5. H Jay you are paying attention and glad to hear it. Now dive into the solutions and find hope! The sleepers needed to be shown just how horrific their plan is – Lord have they been hard to wake up, but for the sake of survival many are. Many are lost for good and there in comes a culling of the population. The road will be rough before it gets better – “Dark to Light!”

  6. I started following Bernie’s political career in 1972 and was very concerned about his messaging to students. Of course, the students and liberal Vermonters ate up his socialist rhetoric as if it was Ben and Jerry’s socialist ice cream. IMHO, he is The Piped Piper of Socialism. He is a serious open wound on Democracy and only fools and those that are blind to the simple fact that socialism hasn’t worked in any country ever. Socialism deprives us of our true freedoms. End of rant.
