Man charged with cruelty to his young child at store

A 39-year-old Randolph resident has been charged with two counts of cruelty to his child following a Vermont State Police investigation into incidents that occurred this month at a local store.

State police said the investigation began Sunday, Nov. 23, after a report alleging that Carmine Colajezzi had physically harmed his child, who is under the age of 5.

According to police, the injuries were sustained that day while Colajezzi was shopping at Central Supply in Randolph. Investigators later determined that a similar incident had taken place a week earlier, on Nov. 16, at the same location.

Colajezzi was taken into custody and arraigned Monday, Nov. 24, in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in Chelsea on two counts of cruelty to a child, a violation of Title 13 VSA 1304.

Further details are included in the affidavit of probable cause, which is available through the Criminal Court Clerk’s Office. The Vermont State Police said the investigation remains active.
