Tuesday morning, November 28, as Burlington police labored on an epidemic of highly publicized shootings, Ladder 4 of the Burlington Fire Department was dispatched to a 4 month old kitten stuck in a tree in the New North End.
The firefighters arrived on scene to find the kitten about 50 feet up a large tree in the backyard of a residence. Ladder 4 positioned in a neighboring driveway and was able to utilize the aerial device to reach the kitten. The kitten was retrieved, brought down the ladder and was soon inside with his family, warming up and doing well.
The Fire Department felt obliged to explain why it posted the story. “With so much negativity in the news surrounding Burlington, we thought everyone might enjoy some good news,” the author of the post said.
“May I just say how this is the most delightful news I have heard in a very long time,” said one of the 62 comments on the Facebook post telling the tale of the kitten’s rescue.
